THE BE SAFE, BE SEEN GAME

The Be Safe, Be Seen game is only available on the Flash version of this site but is designed to teach you all about cycling in the dark, including the following:

  • Wear fluorescent clothes in the day and reflective clothes in the dark. If you're out at night, make sure you're bright!
  • It is against the law to cycle at night without a white front light, a red back light and a red reflector at the back, so make sure they are all clean and working!

DE-CODE THE CODE

The De-code the Code game is only available on the Flash version of this site but is designed to teach you all about the Green Cross Code.

Learn the Green Cross code here.

HOG CROSS FUN

The Hog Cross Fun game is only available on the Flash version of this site but is designed to teach you all about using crossings with traffic lights, including the following:

Some crossings have a red and a green man.

  • Push the button and wait where you can see the signal and traffic.
  • Once the green man shows and traffic has stopped you can cross. Even if you hear the bleeper sound, you should still keep looking for traffic - even if the man's gone green, don't be too keen!
  • Only cross when you see a green man. When the green man disappears, there could be:

    · A flashing green man opposite
    · A red man signal opposite
    · No signal opposite.

Remember:

  • You may have to wait a little time. Be patient!
  • Cross the road quickly, but don't run!
  • Some crossings have an island in the middle of the road. Treat each half of the crossing as a separate crossing; press the button and wait for the green man.

My Lucky Escape

One day I was at the shop with my brother and my dad. On the way back I was crossing the road when I was hit by a car.

I was hurt really badly and had to be taken to a big hospital by helicopter. I was really lucky that the car was only going 26mph. The policeman said that if the driver was going any faster I might have been killed!

But I'm OK now and my mum has been trying to get that road where I was hit made wider. She said that they should stop cars parking there too, because that makes it harder for drivers to see us when we are trying to cross the road.
